Leather upholstery adds elegance to any home and it is for that reason why it's preferred by a lot of people. However, just like other things, it needs a little love and caring. To preserve the beauty of your leather upholstery, here's a short guide for your reference:The sun is leather's enemy so never leave leather furniture in direct sunlight. Doing so will lead to drying and cracking. Position leather upholstery at least two feet away from heat sources such as heating vents, fireplaces, radiators and air conditioning units. To nourish the leather, combine one part of white vinegar with two parts of linseed oil. Shake the mixture well and use a soft cloth to apply to the leather. Use a circular motion until you cover the whole thing. Rub in thoroughly and wait 10 minutes before buffing it with a soft cloth for that perfect shine.To take away ink stains, dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol, use this over the spot and blow dry afterwards.
If the stain stays, apply a thick coat of non-gel, non-oily cuticle remover. Leave on overnight and wipe clean with a damp cloth. For dark stains that are highly visible on light-colored leather upholstery, combine a paste of one part lemon juice with one part cream of tartar. Apply the paste on the stain and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Apply a second layer, work it in, then remove it with a damp sponge. Make it a habit to wipe off spills as soon as they occur to prevent them from soaking into the fiber of your upholstery. When this occurs, they can be difficult to remove.Every six months or so, clean your leather upholstery using a mixture of water and a mild facial soap.
